The Plaza Mayor of Salamanca is one of the most emblematic places in the city. It is the center of the city's social activity, a regular meeting point for Salamanca residents and a must-visit place in this beautiful, monumental and welcoming city.
Built between 1729 and 1756 in baroque style, with stone from Villamayor and designed by Churriguera. With an area of 6.400 square meters and 88 semicircular arches, it is one of the largest in the world. It was also declared a national monument in 1935 and together with other monuments of the same category have allowed Salamanca to be declared decades ago as one of the 15 World Heritage cities of Spain.
