Indonesia has more than 17.500 islands and the ocean makes up more than three quarters of its territory. The fisheries sector is critical to the economy, contributing $27 billion in gross domestic product, supporting seven million jobs, and supplying more than half of the country's animal protein intake.
In this watercolor on paper the main motif is a traditional Indonesian fisherman fishing next to his village. Fishermen who, through the centuries, have managed to make a living with their arts and, furthermore, with their method, achieve sustainability of the ecosystem in which they live. The method used in this case is two wooden sticks joined at their lower end by a net that allows the fish to be captured.
