“Hallowed Ground” evokes a sense of celebration and purity—a place where delicate creatures like hummingbirds and butterflies can truly thrive. I envisioned the flags fluttering above an immaculate sky as symbols of joy and festivity, reminiscent of pre-Columbian culture, their presence woven into the canvas like the ancient crevices of the mountains below. At the centre, the hummingbird appears as a messenger, drifting through a dream—an ancestral offering of hope.
While painting the pine trees, I recalled how I used to climb them as a child to gain a broader view of the world. In a way, that same desire for a sweeping perspective is what I sought to capture in this piece.
